Jeff Leech
Jeff Leech is a Midwest-born photographer whose journey into the world of art was anything but conventional. After a successful 35-year career as an X-ray technician, Jeff retired in the fall of 2023 and returned to his roots on the family farm near Liberty, Illinois. It was here, surrounded by the landscapes that shaped his childhood, that he embraced his true artistic passion—canvas art photography.
An avid traveler and nature lover, Jeff's work is part of an evolving collection titled "The World We See." This extensive visual journey captures the everyday beauty of nature—breathtaking mountain scenes, captivating wildlife imagery, national park landscapes, and much more.
Jeff's photography is defined by vibrant colors, dramatic skies, and tranquil water reflections. Whether it's a billowy cloud against a deep blue sky or the soft glow of a sunset mirrored in a lake, his art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and feel connected to the world around them.
Inspired by his grandfather—a renowned artist for Morton Salt and the creator of two iconic Morton Salt Girls—Jeff’s artistic roots run deep. His first paid art class at the age of seven laid the foundation for a lifelong creative exploration. Over the years, he experimented with jewelry-making, graphite drawing, and acrylic painting before discovering his love for photography. While Jeff occasionally creates glossy photo prints, his preferred medium is canvas, where images take on a painterly quality that bridges photography and fine art. He also repurposes his prints into unique pieces like bookmarks, ornaments, magnets, and even handcrafted jewelry made from imperfect canvases.
Not interested in the artistic constraints of commissioned portraits or wedding photography, Jeff prefers to stay true to his creative instincts and personal vision. He finds greater fulfillment and joy in capturing moments that speak to him. As he puts it, “Photography isn't just about preserving your own memories. It's about bringing others along for the ride.” Through his lens, he invites viewers to slow down, reflect, and emotionally connect with the beauty and stillness found in everyday scenes for the ride.”
