Madeline Cornwell

Madeline Cornwell is a collage and mixed media artist whose work strikes a compelling balance between meticulous precision and uninhibited creativity. She was raised by a mother who cultivated an environment of creativity, imagination, and encouragement. Meanwhile, her father was a detail-oriented engineer who instilled in her the value of taking the time to do things the right way. And so, she became a neurotic perfectionist with a penchant for artistic endeavours, which is quite a contradiction. As the saying goes, “Perfection is the enemy of creativity.”

However, she likes to think that her artwork is a strange manifestation of these opposing concepts, and someday she hopes to find a sensible balance between them.

​Inspired early on by artists such as Eric Carle, Henri Matisse, and Mary Delany, Madeline discovered her passion for collage through the tactile, layered process of painting papers, cutting shapes, and composing them into vibrant works of art. She finds collage to be equal parts exasperating and therapeutic—an art form that constantly invites experimentation, yet rewards patience and precision.

An avid animal lover and seasoned traveler, Madeline’s work often reflects her deep appreciation for the natural world. Her favorite subjects include colorful creatures, botanical forms, and scenic landscapes inspired by her passions. She also explores abstract compositions, using geometric shapes and mixed media elements to create bold, textured designs that engage the viewer’s eye. Deeply in love with the intricacy and satisfaction of the process, she finds herself endlessly daydreaming about the diverse myriad of projects she would like to undertake next.
